Smarter 7-Min Guide: Hike to South Matthieu Lake the Better Way in the Three Sisters Wilderness

*UPDATE: The Central Cascades Wilderness Limited Permit System has changed!!! Permits are now required June 15th through October 15th.

For this hike specifically, only 50 people can hike this a day. For more information visit: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/willam...

or visit our blog post: https://recreationleader.com/informat...

Typically this hike would be a moderate 6 mile loop that starts at Lava Camp Lake Trailhead. The route we took adds another 2.2 miles (8.2 total). Definitely worth it!

To get there, start at Dee Wright Observatory and walk south on Highway 242, two-hundred feet; you will reach the Pacific Crest Trail. Start hiking towards North and Middle Sister! Type these coordinates into Google Maps if lost: 44°15'35.3"N 121°48'18.6"W

This hike only has about an 800 ft elevation gain.

Till next time my friends.
